History of Manchester and District Aikikai

The Manchester & District Aikikai was founded in 1971 by Don and Mary Pybus. Prior to that, Don and Mary had been taught Aikido for many years by sensei Abe, Nakasono, Norro and Chiba.

In 2001 the members decided to affiliate with Alan Ruddock's Aiki-no-Michi. Alan runs his clubs the way we always have, as a non-profit organisation.

Alan Ruddock is a 6th dan and learned his aikido at The Hombu headquarters in Japan when O sensei was still alive.

Alan visits us every year to give us a course for club members and guests.
